After working with the Streets Department to investigate why our trash has not been picked up recently, we were instructed that our containers were too large and heavy; also, Streets was concerned about the Park’s failure to line the cans with plastic trash bags, because feces (even in “poop bags”) was sometimes leaking into the cans, and then onto Sanitation workers (yuck!). City Regulations allow a maximum size of 32 gallons and a maximum weight of 40 pounds. Thus, the Board just purchased 4 new 32 gallon trash cans.
Moving forward, the CANS MUST BE LINED WITH PLASTIC TRASH BAGS (which are being stored in the container behind the bulletin board), and the trash cans need to emptied when the bags are full. It is the responsibility of ALL Park members to help with the trash. Since trash pickup is Friday morning, if you are at the Park late Thursday evening or early Friday morning, please drag out a can our two, or bring a can back into the Park after pickup. If you drag a can back into the Park (or see an empty can), PLEASE LINE IT WITH A PLASTIC TRASH BAG. Collection of our trash goes beyond the Streets Department’s traditional services; while Streets is willing to do so provided we meet the current guide lines, it is critical that we use plastic bags to ensure we have continued pickup, and to ensure the safety and well-being of the City’s Sanitation workers.
