Committees
Following are a list of committees and a description of some possible functions; each committee will be chaired by a sitting Board member. While it is not expected that involvement in a committee will be particularly time-intensive, the Board hopes to engage, and get assistance from, members in maintaining our community park.
MEMBERSHIP & ORIENTATION COMMITTEE
- helping with annual dues/registration process;
- being alert to whether dogs have tag; informing humans of requirement; setting-up/staffing periodic formal tag-checking at the park; and
- participating in orientation sessions with new members, including possibly staffing sessions and/or assisting with curriculum development.
LANDSCAPING, WORKDAY, & GARDENS COMMITTEE
- participating in, and planning for, semi-annual park clean-up/workdays;
- preparing ground for, and helping plant new trees;
- receiving and spreading wood chips, including regular redistribution; of wood chips from 3rd Street side;
- all garden tenders will be on this committee.
TRASH & RECYCLING COMMITTEE
- taking out trash and recycling the evening before trash day; including checking recycling bins to see that they contain only items the City accepts as recyclable;
- returning trash cans and recycling bins to park, including when necessary (and the water is turned on) cleaning out with the hose.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS & SPECIAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE
- participating in art installation design, execution, and fundraising for 3rd Street retaining wall;
- participating in design, fundraising and execution for Orianna and Poplar Street fences; and
- coordinating and/or assisting on any other special projects deemed necessary by the Board.
EVENTS & FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
- brainstorming for fundraising events, as necessary for the financial health of FOOHP, and other events may from time to time be deemed necessary; and
- planning and executing events (such as the annual Beef and Beer, Hound-o-ween and others), including finding the venue, advertising, and generally ensuring the success of events.
ELECTION COMMITTEE (only in even numbered years, i.e., 2010, 2012)
Elections are held every two years in April; the next election is in April, 2010. The Elections committee is composed of one Board member and two general members. No member of the Elections committee may be a candidate for office. Elections committee members will:
- receive and record nominations from the membership no less than 3 weeks prior to the elections, including developing a nomination form;
- verify that nominees are qualified to hold office and that nominees agree to run;
- publish to all Voting members a list of nominees no less than two weeks prior to the elections;
- assure that ballot sheets are prepared for the election;
- verify qualifications of all Voting members;
- conduct the election, tally the ballots, and present a report to the President before the close of the elections (The President will announce the results)
- allow for absentee balloting of eligible Voting members, including making absentee ballots available 10 days before the elections and receiving absentee ballots 3 days before the election.
